FAQs
Clear answers about course types, official certification, and digital credential management.
What does MHFA teach?
MHFA is an evidence-based, early-intervention course that teaches participants to identify, understand and respond to signs and symptoms of mental health and substance use challenges. It covers common signs of mental health problems and prepares a First Aider to provide initial support to someone who may be experiencing a mental health crisis, use an action plan, and connect them to the appropriate care in crisis and non-crisis situations. It does not train people to diagnose or provide therapy.
How do Adult, Youth and teen MHFA courses differ?
Adult Mental Health First Aid teaches adults how to support other adults facing a mental health or substance use challenge. Youth Mental Health First Aid is designed for adults who regularly interact with young people ages 12-18, including family members, school staff, first responders, and health and human services workers. Teen Mental Health First Aid, or tMHFA, teaches teens in grades 9-12, or ages 14-18, how to support friends and peers and involve a parent, guardian, or trusted adult.
Does Wauld provide MHFA courses or official certification?
No. The National Council for Mental Wellbeing operates the U.S. program and certifies First Aiders and Instructors through its authorized courses. Wauld helps approved providers manage branded digital recognition and related records. A Wauld credential should complement, not replace, the official course record or certificate.
Can Wauld automate course completion credentials?
Yes. An authorized provider can connect its learning system to Wauld through an integration, API, or webhook and issue a supplemental credential after verified completion. Only describe a learner as certified in Mental Health First Aid when the learner has met the official program requirements.
Can recipients share and verify their credentials?
Yes. Each Wauld credential has a unique verification page and can include a QR code. Recipients can also share their achievement on LinkedIn, while employers and community members can confirm the issuer and credential details online.
Does Wauld support in-person and virtual training?
Yes. Wauld can manage completion credentials for in-person, online, and blended delivery. Mental Health First Aid USA currently offers in-person and blended course formats, with blended instruction available online or in person.
Can I customize credentials for different course audiences?
Yes. Create distinct designs for adult and youth programs, workplace cohorts, public safety teams, or Adult Mental Health First Aid for Military, Veterans and Their Families. Add your approved branding and accurate course details without implying a clinical qualification.
