FAQs

Clear answers about training records, certification pathways, and digital credential management.

Does a Wauld certificate make someone a certified medical interpreter?

No. Learners receive a certificate of completion for the provider's course. Wauld does not certify interpreters or award a professional credential. The document is not a national medical interpreter certification. Independent bodies grant professional credentials after a candidate meets their current eligibility and exam requirements.

How can course records support professional certification?

Accurate records can help a candidate document a training prerequisite. CCHI currently requires applicants to be at least 18, hold a high school diploma or equivalent, show dual-language proficiency, and complete at least 40 hours of healthcare interpreting education. CCHI states that it does not accredit, pre-approve, or endorse beginner programs. NBCMI accepts a certificate from an approved medical interpreter training course of at least 40 hours or a transcript for at least three college credit hours. Candidates should confirm the current prerequisites and every training requirement directly before they apply for national certification.

How do certification exams for medical interpreters differ?

In the U.S., the Certification Commission for Healthcare Interpreters requires its CoreCHI knowledge exam first. For performance-based certification, it then uses language-specific CHI exams for three languages or the English-to-English CoreCHI-Performance assessment for other languages. CHI means Certified Healthcare Interpreter. The National Board of Certification for Medical Interpreters requires candidates to pass the written exam before they are eligible to take the oral exam for CMI in Spanish, Cantonese, Mandarin, Russian, Korean, and Vietnamese. Its pathway therefore includes written and oral exams. Each certification program sets and updates its own rules.

Can I automate certificates after learners complete the course?

Yes. Connect Wauld to your learning platform with an API, webhook, or supported automation. When a learner meets your completion rules, Wauld can create and deliver the course certificate without manual data entry.

Can learners and employers verify each course certificate?

Yes. Every credential can include a unique QR code and verification link. A learner, employer, or language services team can check the issuer, recipient, and course details without contacting your staff.

Can Wauld issue CE certificates for interpreters?

Yes. You can document attendance, course details, and continuing education units when your program is authorized to offer them. Only describe a course as accredited and approved when you have confirmation from the appropriate organization. A Wauld-issued record does not create or imply that approval.
