HVAC Technician FAQs
Clear answers about managing certificates and badges for HVAC education and workforce programs.
Does Wauld provide technician courses or award industry certification?
No. Wauld is credential management software for training providers, schools, and employers. It does not teach a training course, administer certification exams, or award EPA, NATE, or HVAC Excellence certification. Your organization remains responsible for its curriculum, assessments, authorization, and certification requirements.
Can we automate certificates after learners finish an HVAC technician program?
Yes. Connect your LMS or other systems through integrations, APIs, webhooks, or SSO. Once your completion rules are met, Wauld can issue a branded certificate or badge and give the recipient a secure link to it. This works for self-paced learning, instructor-led classes, and hands-on training milestones.
How should a provider handle the EPA 608 certification exam and records?
EPA says Section 608 certification is required for technicians who maintain, service, repair, or dispose of equipment that could release regulated refrigerant. They must pass a test from an EPA-approved certifying organization, and Section 608 credentials do not expire. Wauld can help an authorized issuer manage digital records, but a course-completion certificate must not be represented as EPA certification unless it was issued through an approved program.
Can we issue credentials for NATE or HVAC Excellence preparation?
You can issue your own branded completion credentials for exam preparation, subject to your agreements and brand permissions. Keep them distinct from credentials awarded by NATE or HVAC Excellence. The NATE Ready-to-Work Certificate is an entry-level certificate, not NATE certification. HVAC Excellence Employment Ready certifications have no prerequisite, and an HVAC Excellence Employment Ready certificate of achievement is issued to a successful candidate.
What is the job outlook for certified HVAC technician candidates?
The Bureau of Labor Statistics reports on the occupation as a whole, not by certification status. It projects employment for heating, air conditioning, and refrigeration mechanics and installers to grow 8 percent from 2024 to 2034, with about 40,100 openings each year on average over that period.
Can employers verify an HVACR technician credential?
Yes. Every credential issued with Wauld has a unique verification link and QR code. Employers can confirm the credential details online without contacting your team, while you retain control over corrections, updates, and revocation.
